Meet: Victoria
I waited until the last name was to be drawn and it looks like Victoria chose me. I have never painted with acrylics or oils before. I have never painted a portrait before. I was a little afraid of this class. But when I got to sit next to Victoria and hear her story over dinner, I couldn’t wait to pray and paint her. Victoria is a spiritual gangster. She is so strong yet gentle. She’s been through so much but an overcomer, she’s been through so many battles but she’s a fighter, so much coming against her but so much peace and joy in her life. I glued the book of Acts and Romans to my canvas. Spiritual baptism and identity in Christ. Her portrait is painted in pinks, red, and purples. Love and royalty. I had so much fun growing and painting this while interceding for my new sister in Christ. Victory. Thank you Jesus for choosing me to paint your beautiful daughter, Victoria.
Victoria’s thought on portrait:
Pink. Bright Pink, at that. I know. It's loud and kinda off-putting at first. But I think that's kind of how I am too. I am bright and vibrant. Kinda too strong on the eyes and ears with my personality. And the world never let's me forget it.
And then, what is this? All of these edges and pieces seeming to lift. Is this painting damaged or broken? I am told they are pages or copies of Bible pages. Again, like me, I've been through so much and yes there are pieces and panels put together of who made it through the journey. I grew up in East Los Angeles in an under developed neighborhood, raised by a single mom. When you have seen what I have seen you have to rip out pieces from your memory and paint over a new spot where the sad memory used to be. Or unlearn behaviors that were learned to survive those times. Those are God's edges, God's scars, and God and his people who help to put them back together.
I am an artist, and struggle in current times to make it. I like to use my words, my song, and makeup artistry to tell digital stories. I intend to put the money towards obtaining a makeup artist certificate and could use your help with school costs, laptop computer and school supplies. My story is not done being written and your help gives me an opportunity to pursue my passion without worrying to make money to survive. Thank you for reading my message and looking at the painting Damon worked so hard to paint. The support is much appreciated just reading and looking at everyone's stories.
